I Am Going to start applying for jobs as a Peace Officer and am curious if I could pass the police background investigation. I AM a month from receiving my honourable discharge from the army, i have NEVER been convicted of ANYTHING, i've never even received a ticket..lol....MY CREDIT IS MY ONLY CONCERN. When i turned 18 I made some stupid choices financially..i co signed for people and let a FEW accounts go to collection. Now, at 21 i have matured financially drastically i feel. i have contacted all the agencies and currently on payment plans, and i was even able to finance a brand new vehicle a few months ago with a good interest rate. Do you think this will prevent from becoming a police officer???

Based on what you wrote, I don't think your credit would hold you back. Make sure you continue to make all your payments on time. I don't think you have anything to worry about.

When we hire officers, we want to know if their credit is bad, how bad it is, why it is bad, and how much debt they have. We take all this into account when deciding whether or not to hire them. If you were able to finance a new vehicle, your credit shouldn't prevent you from becoming a police officer.

If your credit is bad and you owe a lot of money, that could definitely cause you to not get a job. But, I agree that you should be okay

Nowadays it is almost impossible to get into Law Enforcement unless you are 100% perfect.They will find something to try to eliminate people the ones they hire are usually friends or relatives of the ranking officers, or applicants that they just can't dig up any dirt on no matter how deep they dig. If you get past the background. the oral board will grill you too. and try to get you hung up to see how you respond to their questions which can make or break you right there. They say credit alone won't disqualify you but it has been a major issue with me(even though it's due to long term unemployment after a layoff) I know of someone who was turned down for having a seatbelt citation. So I would say starting making friends in The department you want to apply at this may help you to eliminate some hurdles. I know of officers that didn't even have a background check done because they had a high ranking officer as a father. Not saying thats a good thing but whatever gets you in the door.

I'm applying for LE jobs in Florida. I completed the academy and put in multiple applications at various agencies. I'm working on an application now and realized I haven't been putting an employer on my previous applications. In 2008, I worked for a company for a short time period who offered additional hours through their sister company. I didn't apply for this extra work but was allowed to take it. I now realize looking back the sister company sent me separate checks while I worked at my main employer probably less than 40 hours of work.

I've come to a dilemma should I put this work experience on my future applications? If I do this my future app's won't match my previous ones which will be pulled during a background check and my app's will obviously be inconsistent. A LEO buddy told me I just should wait until a background interview occurs and mention it. I also haven't been listing a job I worked for a month while I was 16. Most agencies I've called before putting in an have told me it isn't necessary to list a job before I was 18. Should I put this job on future applications too?
