Most police departments would not hire you if you have stolen something only two years ago. That seems like your biggest problem. Getting fired from Wal-Mart for stealing, even if it was six years ago, will probably also be a problem. It could certainly keep you from becoming a police officer any time soon. My best advice is to continue improving what you can. Keep volunteering. Try to stay with the same organization for as long as you can. Finish your degree, then continue on, and get a four year degree if you can. Even if it takes a long time. Be patient. I would consider a different major if you get a four year degree. Keep your credit score high. I would definitely keep one or two credit accounts with a small balance. Keep paying on time though! Not every department requires your to pass a polygraph test, but many do. If the gambling you did was legal, it shouldn't be a problem for you. I would try to get the best job you can as soon as you can, and keep that job for a while. After eight more years, then try to become a police officer. You would still be young enough, and you would probably have a much better chance of getting hired.
