I'm thinking about signing up for a police academy. I don't know if it is worth it. Will it help me get a job? Should I pay my way through the academy or not?

If you've tried to get hired by some large departments already, and haven't been able to, then maybe consider paying your way through an academy. Otherwise, I wouldn't waste your money. Do you have a degree? If not, your money would probably be better spent on getting a degree.

I put myself through the academy. It was well worth it. Where I live you have to if you want to get a job. There aren't many depts. that will hire you without laready having the academy. I still had to work part-time for more than 3 years before getting a full-time job.

With today's economy, you have to do whatever you can to make yourself stand out among the crowd. I agree that spending your money on college might be a better option. Go for your bachelor degree if you can. If not, the academy would be a good option. Good luck!

And how long is it? 6 months?
